A professional, trauma-informed educator and credentialed teacher since 2010, as well as a published writer and freelance editor, our founder Christina Berke MFA M.Ed. has worked with everyone from preschoolers to grandparents in public, private, charter, collegial and 1:1 settings within the community and internationally. She was honored to be one of Yelp’s Top 10 Tutors when she ran a private tutoring service, with students consistently averaging 2 years of reading growth within 6 months. Her experience also includes working as a teacher-librarian for one of the nation's largest school districts and developing lessons as a curriculum designer for start-ups. In this 6-week live online workshop, we’ll explore the ways in which techniques of narrative craft can be harnessed to impose order, or shape compelling stories out of real-life material. We’ll read examples of creative nonfiction including personal essays, narrative reportage, memoir excerpts, and flash creative nonfiction, and we’ll draft new works of our own.

Creative Writing 101

This 10-week survey course is designed to develop a deeper understanding of nonfiction, fiction, flash, micro, spoken word, hybrid, and poetry. This course provides writers with the opportunity to examine writing as a craft that can be developed and analyzed through thoughtful consideration of texts. It focuses on the power of written language as a tool to examine and communicate social inequities.
